Welcome to Holy Cross Catholic Primary School website and thank you for visiting us. Our school serves the parishes of Holy Rood; St Peter’s, West Swindon; St Joseph’s, Wroughton and the Sacred Heart, Royal Wootton Bassett. We pride ourselves on being a progressive, vibrant, learning community which highly values its cultural diversity. The children at Holy Cross are taught by an experienced and dedicated team of professionals with an aspiration of ensuring that learning is fun and teaching is creative. Children are taught in a happy, well disciplined environment and are inspired to see learning as a life long experience.
Holy Cross is currently positioned on two sites. Both sites each have pleasant grounds with their own field; adventure play area and large playground. The site on Upham Road houses the Year 6 pupils. The site on Queen's Drive was opened in September 2015 and currently houses Reception, Years 1, 2 and 3 pupils in a modern, excellently resourced building. We have extensive links with local community organisations and a school in Poitiers, France.
Mrs Karen Salter
Head of School
Please note a change to the School Calendar for 2018/2019. We have aligned our school calendar more in line with St Joseph’s school calendar.
Letter from Paul Hughes, Executive Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
On behalf of the staff and governors at Holy Cross Catholic Primary School, I would like to wish all pupils and parents a very happy and holy Christmas and every blessing for the New Year.
I am sure that you would like to join with me in thanking all of the staff for their continued hard work and commitment to the children of the school during this term. I would also like to thank our fantastically supportive governors, parents and carers. We are so lucky at Holy Cross to have such a richly diverse community. By working together, we can ensure that our children enjoy their time at school, make good progress and leave us as responsible, well-qualified, mature young people, ready to make a valued contribution to society. We have received so many positive comments about the children’s behaviour and attitude from a range of visitors to the school and you should all feel very proud of them.
At the end of November, Bishop Declan asked all Catholic institutions in the Diocese to reflect in the coming year on our mission. Holy Cross has a very clear mission. We seek to provide a broad, balanced, Christian education which aims to help each child develop their full potential. We are a worshipping community which recognises the uniqueness of the individual and aims to promote the Gospel values of love and respect for God and one another. We open ourselves to others and respect their ways of thinking and living. The school encourages effective communication and good relationships with home, parish and wider community. I have been very privileged to see how these values are being lived out in the school.
I would like to thank Mr Christian for stepping up to the role of interim Head of School since September. The diocese has set down a clear rule that the substantive Head of a Catholic school should be a practising Catholic and I am delighted to tell you that Mrs Salter has been appointed to the role and will start in post from January. Once again, thank you to Mr Christian for all that he has done and will continue to do in his role as Deputy Head of School. He will primarily be based at Upham Road from January working with our Year 6 children. We are also very pleased to be welcoming Miss Ballmann, an experienced teacher, who will be taking over from Mrs Salter in the Year 2 Cedar class from January.
Please remember that our new term begins for children on Wednesday 3rd January (Tuesday 2nd January is a staff development day) and we look forward to seeing all of our children return refreshed and eager to learn in the new calendar year. Merry Christmas to you all!
With very best wishes for the festive period,
